Many patrons rave about the standout scallops, recalling them as a must-try starter, beautifully complemented with Stornoway black pudding. The rib-eye and sirloin steaks deserve mention too, tender and expertly cooked to perfection. Desserts are another highlight, with the peanut butter cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding frequently receiving accolades. The rustic charm of the restaurant adds an extra layer to the experience, as guests admire the quirky decor that sparks conversations. And let’s not overlook the coffee: known for being rich and aromatic, it’s the perfect way to cap off a meal.

Most Disliked

A few guests have noted that the restaurant can feel a bit cramped, especially during busy lunch or dinner hours. While the atmosphere buzzes with excitement, those looking for a more intimate dining experience might find it challenging. Some diners have mentioned that certain dishes can occasionally run out, especially on busy nights when everything is freshly prepared. While the prices sit between £30 and £40, some patrons feel it’s slightly high for casual dining – though most agree that the quality justifies it. As a popular spot, making a reservation is strongly advised to avoid disappointment, particularly on weekends.

A little gem in Helensburgh. Slightly hidden away but well worth a visit. The place itself is bursting with character having been a bakery in a previous life. Food is great as are the hosts. Very engaging and helpful. Scallops are highly recommended for the starter while the steaks are also good. Definitely a place to try if in the area. Opening days can vary so recommended that you book ahead.

The atmosphere here is truly unique – the decor feels like a living room, with personal touches that give the space real character. The food was excellent, well-prepared and beautifully presented. Every dish was a pleasant surprise. The service was friendly and attentive, with a personal touch that we really appreciated. It’s a place that stands out for its quality and individuality – perfect for anyone looking for something authentic and a bit off the beaten path.

A little gem tucked away in Helensburgh. Absolutely delightful with perfectly cooked dishes by Mary, and wonderful attention from Roger. All the food is freshly sourced and beautifully cooked. The scallop and blackpudding starter a must! The lemon sole, vennison, and crannachan all so yummy!!! Set in an old bakery, the room is quirky and filled with interesting items that themselves are talking points. The Upper Crust is memorable, so different to anywhere else in Helensburgh and a must. Thank you for a perfect visit! We will be back!

The Upper Crust is a tiny hidden gem packed with atmosphere, with truly fantastic food by Mary paired with fascinating stories from Roger. Don't miss Roger's stories of his filmmaking days, his eclectic music collection, the cosy and artistic surroundings - and of course Mary's delicious dishes. Sublime.

Very very, might I say, VERY nice restaurant in this quaint little town. We had a lavish dinner celebrating our completion of the West Highland Way. The service was pleasant and fun. The interior very cosy and warming. The food honest and delicious. When your hungry in Helensburgh (or 20 miles around it), it's a must go. Thanks for the wondeful evening.

Had one of the best nights with my partner. The hospitality was great, we had a laugh, served very quickly and the food was amazing!! Portion sizes were perfect we had a 3 course meal normally that would never happen. A big shout out to the waiter and the chef's, it was a superb night! Overall myself and partner thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will be back again for sure!
